          How to start your system

          If you have just purchased an Ecolet™ system, then this guide on how to start up your system is for you

          Once your Ecolet™ system is fully installed and the ventilation system is running, you need to add a starter bed before the system can be used

          For Ecolet™ 240 Range – Models Manual 15e, Automatic 25e, Fully Automatic 55ai & Fully Automatic 65ai

          First, you will need to acquire your bulking agent (carbon materials). These can be sourced from WCTNZ or suppliers from around NZ. We recommend light grade Wood Shavings, Coco Peat and Peat moss is used as the starter-bed material (bulking agent). The reason we recommend this mixture is because they are high in carbon and hygroscopic properties, that are a good texture to trap oxygen and provide repertory airways for the life of the compost.
          Ecolet™ 240 systems benefit from a mixture of Wood Shavings, Coco Peat and Peat Moss. Please see best bulking agent guide here [link].
          In some cases, due to supply problems or personal preference, it is not practical to use wood shavings see alternative bulking agents discussed in the Operating Manual for your consideration.

          Step-by-step guild

          1. Once you have your wood shavings mixture you will need to fill the systems composting chamber with the bulking agent mixture to the necessary level. Open the compost cover by pressing the toilet seat down. Pour some of the bag of WCT Eco Mix (30 supplied with the system) down into the system. Add one bag of WCT Microbe Mix into the system as well.
          2. You will need to add a little water to this starter bed - about one litre is all that’s needed. This wets out the starter bed to encourage Microbial growth for effective composting.
          3. Turn the mixer handle 6 times in the clockwise direction (Manual model only) or press and hold the micro switch behind the seat (Automatic models only), until the mixer stops (approximately 5 seconds), then release the button. This allows the mixing arms to complete their cycle between each press (approximately 1 min.). Repeat 2-3 times until the mulch is evenly disbursed through the toilet.
          4. Adjust your thermostat dial or program to the appropriate setting. See supplied Manual for guidance

          Note that;

          • Some of the starter bed material will fall through the grate and fill up the tray. THIS IS NORMAL - DO NOT EMPTY THE TRAY UNTIL LATER.
            On-going maintenance.
          • It is very important to add a Microbial mixture to your toilet after you have emptied the tray. Once you have placed the tray back into your Ecolet, add 1 cup of WCT Microbe Mix directly into the toilet bowl.

          Important!
          WCTNZ cannot guarantee the operation of your unit unless you are using approved Bulking Agent and Microbe mixtures. For more information on the bulking agent mixtures see here [link]

          CONGRATULATIONS! You have now completed the setup of your new composting toilet.
