GreyFlow™ GTS1 | Clear 1 Greywater Treatment System
GreyFlow™ Clear 1 is the highest treatment level listed within the GreyFlow™ GTS range, intended for projects requiring high-quality treated water for specifically approved non-potable reuse.
The final system is configured around the wastewater sources, hydraulic loading, required treated-water quality, storage, reuse demand and New Zealand approval requirements rather than being limited to one fixed plant size.

New Zealand treatment reference: Clear 1 is closest in practical NZ terminology to advanced-secondary / high-secondary effluent quality with enhanced disinfection. Depending on the complete treatment process and verified performance, it may support tertiary-quality non-potable reuse objectives. This is a technical cross-reference, not an automatic statutory equivalence.

AWWS identifies Clear 1 against AS 1546.4:2016 Level 1 and lists the following treated-water targets:

The treatment class and water-quality values above are manufacturer-stated. Current certification, test reports and supporting evidence must be confirmed for the exact configuration supplied.

Build the treatment system around the site

Control and collect the source water
Greywater is collected from the fixtures and buildings selected for treatment. Source control can be centralised or distributed throughout the site.

Provide pretreatment where required
Filters, solids management and grease management are selected according to the wastewater sources entering the system.

Treat through the Clear 1 system
Treatment capacity is selected from the actual average, peak, batch, seasonal and staged loading rather than a single nominal daily flow.

Store the treated water
Treated-water storage is sized around reuse demand, water turnover, low-use periods, overflow requirements and contingency operation.

Supply the approved reuse
Approved uses may include irrigation, toilet or urinal flushing, laundry cold-feed or another accepted non-potable application where the complete design supports it.
Distributed source control
GreyFlow™ GDD devices can add flexibility before the treatment plant
A GreyFlow™ diversion device can be installed at individual dwellings, buildings or source groups upstream of a shared GTS installation.
This can provide useful operational and site-design flexibility by allowing individual greywater branches to be controlled independently rather than requiring every source to be permanently committed to one central treatment line.
- Route approved greywater to local reuse or to the GTS treatment system.
- Isolate an individual building or branch for servicing.
- Stage treatment loading as a development grows.
- Reduce unnecessary conveyance where approved local reuse is appropriate.
- Retain flexibility for future changes to treatment, reuse or site infrastructure.
Local diversion, central treatment and any alternative discharge connection must each be designed and approved for the intended site. A GDD provides hydraulic and operational flexibility; it does not itself establish a permitted discharge.
Wastewater sources
Bathroom, laundry and kitchen water can be considered
Bathroom greywater
Showers, baths and handbasins are typical GTS influent sources.
Laundry wastewater
Laundry tubs and washing machines may be included subject to detergent, loading and treatment-design requirements.
Kitchen sink / dishwasher
Kitchen wastewater can be included in a specifically designed GTS installation. WCTNZ® recommends dedicated grease and solids pretreatment on the kitchen line before it joins the treatment-system influent.
Blackwater
Toilet and urinal wastewater containing human excreta is not greywater and must not enter a GreyFlow™ GTS unless a separately engineered wastewater treatment design expressly provides for it.
Kitchen wastewater should not be directly diverted for ordinary household greywater reuse. Where it is included in a GreyFlow™ GTS, it is treated as part of the designed treatment-system influent and requires suitable grease / solids management and project-specific approval.

Domestic on-site design
AS/NZS 1547:2012 may form part of the G13/VM4 compliance route where its domestic scope and other requirements are satisfied.
Larger / commercial systems
Require a project-specific engineering and consent basis where the domestic verification scope is not applicable.
Internal reuse
Toilet, urinal, laundry or other internal non-potable supply requires appropriate cross-connection protection, backflow prevention and identification of the non-potable water system.
Environmental discharge
The land-application or other discharge arrangement must comply with the applicable regional plan, permitted-activity requirements and any required resource consent.
The NZ terminology above is a practical treatment-performance comparison, not a declaration that AS 1546.4 Level 1 automatically receives a particular New Zealand consent classification.

Approval applies to the whole installation
- Confirm building-consent requirements for collection, treatment, storage and reuse plumbing.
- Confirm regional-plan and resource-consent requirements for any discharge to land or the environment.
- Use AS/NZS 1547:2012 where applicable to the relevant on-site wastewater design.
- Provide site-specific hydraulic loading, storage and reuse calculations.
- Protect potable supplies from treated non-potable water systems.
- Identify non-potable pipelines and outlets in accordance with the applicable plumbing design requirements.
- Provide maintenance, monitoring, alarm and failure-response requirements appropriate to the project.
