Installing uridan waterless urinals is straightforward for any competent New Zealand plumber or installer. The key differences from a conventional urinal are:
- No flush pipework
- No cistern or flush valve
- No power connection
Everything else is good plumbing practice: correct falls, suitable pipe materials and careful fixing.
Design and planning
- Treat uridan bowls as standard urinal fixtures in your sanitary layout – just without the water feed.
- Position waste connections so the trap and outlet (horizontal or vertical, depending on model) can be installed without strain on the pipework.
- Allow enough service space around each bowl or trough for future access to the trap cover and waste connection.
Architects and engineers can use their usual bathroom planning tools; uridan simply reduces the number of services that need to reach each fixture.
Plumbing basics
- Connect uridan urinals to the foul water system using appropriate pipe materials and falls, as you would for any urine line.
- Follow uridan’s model-specific installation drawings for outlet size, orientation and connection details.
- Ensure pipework is well supported and accessible for any future maintenance.
There is no flush volume to manage, so supply pipe sizing, valves and control systems are removed from the design.
Mounting and heights
- Wall-hung models (such as ADMIRAL and CADET) are fixed to concealed brackets set into the wall or pre-framed backing.
- Floor-standing models (such as PYLON or COMPASS) are fixed to the floor with appropriate anchors.
- Trough solutions (CREW) are supported on wall brackets along the rear edge.
Mounting heights can follow your usual standards for adult and child amenities; uridan provides recommended heights for each model in the technical documentation.
Commissioning and first use
Once the bowls and pipework are installed:
- Check all joints and connections for leaks.
- Fill each trap with the specified amount of uriLOCK® blocking fluid.
- Set the daily and periodic maintenance schedule (often tied to a uridan Combi Pack).
- Brief cleaning and maintenance staff so they understand the basic routine and which products to use.
From that point on, the system runs without water or power – just the planned cleaning and uriLOCK top-ups.
